Know Your Community Inside & Out
Leadership Maumee is for you to explore the city in which you live or work everyday. This will be an educational and enjoyable experience. Over six months, we will offer you the opportunity to get to really know the City of Maumee and discover it's hidden treasures. You will meet city officials and community leaders. You will tour area businesses and learn about what keeps our community alive and prosperous. Some sessions will be entertaining, others will be more thought provoking. all will be informative and memorable.

You will be exposed to community issues, learn about our past, present and what our plans are for the future. Doors will be opened so you can experience first-hand what makes our community work so well. Leadership Maumee draws together a group of quality individuals to share unique experiences, make new acquaintances and develop lasting contacts.

2008 Program Schedule

March 13 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. / Thursday
"Education Day & Leadership Exploration"
Discover another you as we explore personality styles, while managing behavior and group diversity. This introductory session will give you the opportunity to get to know the individuals you are going to spend time with over the next few months. Join us as we explore all levels of education provided in the Maumee area. We will cover vocational education, private and charter schools, special education and college degree programs. What does it take to rate "excellence in education" from the State of Ohio? A panel of educators will participate in an informal question and answer session. A panel of students will then give us their input on testing, the classroom, peer pressure, sports and after school activities. Are the student's needs being met? Come and find out!

April 24 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. / Thursday
"Business - Big & Small"
Sponsored by The Andersons and Stoneco

We will start at The Andersons and learn about it's inception, development and future goals. We will tour the grain elevators, production plant and learn about transporting product, etc. Another venture will take us touring at the bottom of Stoneco's Quarry, where we will get a first hand look at production and blasting techniques. We will talk about employment statistics, opportunities and business incentives in Arrowhead Park and the other areas of Maumee.

May 22 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. / Thursday
"Travel Through History"
Sponsored by Heidelberg College Arrowhead
Dr. G. Michael Pratt will guide us on a bus tour visiting the historical sites of Maumee. You will step back in time to hear about the battles that were fought, and the history that was made. You will stand on the same spot as General "Mad Anthony" Wayne and Tecumseh stood! Our outing will include a trip to the Fort Meigs Museum. This was one of our most favorite sessions the last two year!

June 26 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. / Thursday
"Keeping Our City Safe"
Sponsored by Maumee Police and Fire Department
What do firemen and EMS paramedics do all day? We will tour the fire station, training facility and we will even put out a fire! A visit to the new police station and jail will give us a first hand look at what happens when you are arrested for public intoxication, theft or domestic violence. We will learn about the crime statistics in Maumee and watch Maumee's SWAT team in training. Each person will get the opportunity to do a police patrol ride-along. This is going to be an exciting day you won't want to miss!

September 18 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"Health Day"
Sponsored by St. Luke's Hospital
We will be taking a back-door tour of t. Luke's Hospital, learning about the latest products and techniques used in the operationg room. A series of brief presentations on what is the latest medical progress concerning such illnesses as alzheimer's, diabetes, mental health, hospice care and more. This day will be overloaded with important information.

October 23 / 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"City Government" 
Meet City officials and learn about their roles in community affairs. Visit the courthouse and meet Judge Gary Byers as he explains the justice system in a small city and how different it is in Toledo. We will spend time in a actual court case. We will meet and get to know our council members, our Mayor Tim Wagener, and city safety director John Jezak. Learn how taxes are allocated and shared. How financially secure is Maumee? How does the City benefit from the county level. This day is very informative and actually quite fun.

Participants are encouraged to attend 80% of the program sessions. Cost to attend Leadership Maumee is only $300 for one person and $250 for additional people from the same company. Enrollment deadline for 2008 is March 1. Our class size is limited to 22.  Please call us with any questions.
